KOMERCNI BANKA:  Komercni Stock Firms to Kc 760

Czech blue chips gained momentum on Wednesday as investors jumped
after shares in bank Komercni and power generator CEZ.

The Reuters-HN-Wood index of the 10 most liquid stocks rose 2.4
percent to 1,556.7 points, the broad PX-50 index closed 2.0
percent higher at 522.4 points.

Turnover slightly rose to Kc 561 million, but remained below the
long-term average of over one billion.

Some dealers said the rally might not be over and could break the
downward trend, which has been dragging the bourse lower since
April.

"A mild correction of this week's gains is possible but prices
are low and in the longer-term the market will go up," said
Andrea Ferancova, a trader at Wood&Company.

Komercni jumped 4.6 percent to Kc 760 on late Tuesday's news that
the state could issue guarantees, ahead of the bank's
privatization, over potential futures losses.

CEZ rose 3.6 percent to 105.9 and fixed-line monopoly Cesky
Telecom grew 2.2 percent to 608 crowns.

Traders said they expected builder IPS to jump on Thursday after
announcement after trading hours on Wednesday that new majority
owner Skanska would offer a buyout at 191 crowns per share.

The stock firmed 2.4 percent to Kc 181.3 on Wednesday.

GIGABELL:  Shares Fall Despite Media Report
------------------------------

Shares in German Internet service company Gigabell AG fell more
than 23 percent on Monday despite a media report that three
companies are interested in acquiring the liquidity-troubled
company.

At 1414 GMT shares in Gigabell were down 23.39 percent at 16.70
euros while the Neuer Markt was flat.

"Gigabell is still suffering from the fact that they are on the
death list," one trader said.

Gigabell said on Monday it had a cash-flow problem. The firm said
it expected a solution by the end of this week as it was
examining the possibility of getting external financing from a
bank.

The company added it was also considering selling off a stake in
itself to raise cash.

German investor newsletter Platow Brief reported that U.S.
communications group Viatel and telecoms Telia and Tiscali were
interested in acquiring Gigabell.

Gigabell declined to comment on the report.


LOBSTER TECHNOLOGY:  To Break Even in 2001
------------------------------
HANDELSBLATT, July 13, 2000

Neuer Markt-listed Lobster Technology Holding AG said it expected
to break even in financial 2001 after a DM13 million loss in 2000
(July 1-June 30). The data security network server and work
station firm said it would focus exclusively on the lucrative
"storage solutions" business.

OLTCHIM:  Oltchim Loses 3.3 Percent on Bucharest Bourse
------------------------------

The Bucharest bourse index finished weaker on Tuesday, after
closing almost unchanged the previous day, mainly on falls in
chemicals firm Oltchim and drug maker Terapia.

The BET-C all-share index sagged by 1.11 percent to 482.93
points.

Traders said Oltchim had sunk under pressure from a foreign
investor liquidating their position, losing 3.3 percent at close
to 580 lei.

They said large blocks of around 200,000 Oltchim shares each had
changed hands, at prices ranging from 570 to 600 lei per share,
with local investors seen as the most likely buyers.

Terapia weakened 1.8 percent to close at 1,120 lei, correcting
slightly after a 6.5 percent rise on Monday.

The market was expected to lose further ground on Wednesday on
falls in top stocks, but traders said the drop would be marginal.
Overall volume was some 1.7 million shares on turnover of around
two billion lei.

Five local investment companies (SIFs), which are not included in
the BET-C basket, separately traded 1.9 million shares on
turnover of 798 million lei.

NORDIC SEA: Fish Company Posts Loss of NOK 44.5M for 1999

NORWAY POST, July 3,2000

Northern Norway's largest fish processing company, Nordic Sea
Holding, had a tough year in 1999, losing NOK 44.5m.

Nordic Sea Holding was formed in 1999 by merging the Myregruppen
and Joergensen Holding. Activities include production of fresh
fish, salted fish and frozen fish.

Sales last year were NOK 650m. There was a net loss of NOK 29m
from operations and a total loss of NOK 44.5m.

The reasons for the poor results are reportedly a generally
difficult market, with high prices for raw materials, which could
not be compensated for with higher consumer prices.

AGRICULTURAL BANK:  Privatization Deadline on August 8
------------------------------
PRIVATIZATION IN ROMANIA, July 10, 2000

The investors interested in the privatization of the Agricultural
Bank must submit bids until August 8th, the deadline being delayed
with 6 weeks from June 23rd, in order to finalize the granting
process for the five Financial Investment Companies (FICs) and
the due-diligence process, declared in a press conference from
July 12th Alin Giurgiu, general executive manager of the State
Ownership Fund (SOF).

The prolongation of the deadline for bid submission does not
delay the privatization process, the signing of the contract
being scheduled for the end of September.

The initial bidders, the Agricultural Bank of Greece, the
Romanian-American Investment Fund and Rabo International Advisory
Services, management branch of Rabobank Holland grouped in a
consortium and will submit a single bid, which should be more
substantial, Alin Giurgiu mentioned. According to what he stated,
the three investors are interested in attracting other companies
for common participation to the privatization of the Agricultural
Bank.

Detler R. von During, project manager within the European
Commission delegation in Bucharest, stated that there were
discussions with EBRD, but this bank is interested in holding
shares after the signing of the contract between the consortium
and the SOF.

Alin Giurgiu stated that the SOF is also interested in attracting
the IFC - the World Bank's investment division - in this
transaction.

The initial offer of the SOF included the sale of a 57% stock of
the shares from the Agricultural Bank, but after the granting
with the FICs they intend to offer a larger share stock, the SOF
holding almost 85% of the share capital of the Agricultural Bank.

Up to now, the SOF took over only the shares from the Oltenia
FIC, there being a dispute between the two companies that had to
be solved so as not to delay the privatization process. The SOF
also intends to receive all the other shares held by the FICs.

"Oltenia FIC received shares at several companies, some of them
with losses, such as Sidex Galati, but it also got shares at the
Romanian Commercial Bank. The other four FICs won't receive
shares at the same companies, but they will also receive shares
at the companies with losses. The granting is made out of the
share capital reduced from 1,081 billion ROL to 108 billion ROL",
Alin Giurgiu mentioned.

He also said that the Agricultural Bank would be re-capitalized,
using funds from the state, the date and the value being still
unknown.

The audit report drafted by KPNG according to international
standards, shows that the Agricultural Bank has losses of 60
million dollars at the end of last year.

The Agricultural Bank underwent a reorganization process during
which the personnel were reduced from 5,800 to 3,792 employees.

The bank reshaped the regional network with 72 units and it has
now 180 regional branches. The working expenses were reduced with
35% towards the level of January 1999, and the Agency for Turning
into Account Banking Assets took over non-performing credits
amounting to 2,686 billion ROL.

According to the manager of the Agricultural Bank, Eugen
Radulescu, 44 units of the bank, representing 40% of the bank's
activity, are using the Basis informational system, which gives
rapidity in the developing of the banking operations.

"The bank will continue its services for agriculture, but it will
no longer use the subsidy system; together with other state
institutions, it will participate to Romania's integration into
the European Union", Eugen Radulescu mentioned.


ARAD TEXTILE:  Purchaser Fails to Make Payment
------------------------------
PRIVATIZATION IN ROMANIA, July 10, 2000

The privatization of the Arad Textile Factory (UTA) SA failed
after the purchaser didn't fulfil the contract signed with the
State Ownership Fund (SOF).

According to the contract concluded on March 27th, the winner of
the auction, Textil SA Arad should have paid by the beginning of
the week 32 billion ROL. The value of the transaction includes
the investment that should have been made within UTA.

Textil did not pay the counter value of the shares and the
contract was canceled, the SOF following to organize another
auction. At the last auction, only Textil Arad showed interest in
the company.

The SOF owns 99% of the UTA shares. The company has 250 workers
and debts of over 35 billion ROL.

LETSBUYIT.COM:  Struggling Retailer to List on July 21
------------------------------
HANDELSBLATT, July 13, 2000

Swedish internet retailer LetsBuyIt.com is extending its
subscription period for the fourth time and hiking its issue by
1.1 million shares to 17.8 million shares.

The subscription period will now end July 19 and trading will
begin July 21.

This is the latest in a series of delays to plague the internet
retailer's initial public offering on Germany's Neuer Markt.

Some 20% of the company's capital base will be in free-float, in
line with the limit required under Neuer Markt listing
regulations. The greenshoe will remain at 2.505 million shares.

With a bookbuilding range of 3-4 euros, LetsBuyIt.com now expects
to generate revenue of between 53.4 million euros and 71.2
million euros through the issue.


LETSBUYIT.COM: Retailer Halves Price Again
------------------------------
THE TIMES, July 13, 2000

LETSBUYIT.COM, the Internet retailer, has been forced to halve
the size of its stock market flotation for the second time in six
weeks in a last-ditch attempt to secure enough cash to fund the
company for the next 12 months.

The London-based group yesterday slashed the indicative issue
price for its float on Germany's Neuer Markt from ?6-?7 a share
to ?3-?4 amid a poor response from investors.

The flotation will value Letsbuyit.com at a maximum of ?356
million (?224 million) - just one third of the value of its first
float attempt in May. The stock, which was due to start trading
yesterday, will now list next week.

The company allows consumers to get big discounts on items such
as CD players by shopping together.


LETSBUYIT.COM: Troubled Retailer Hopes to Hold July 21 Debut

The fewer buyers of its shares, the cheaper the price
Online retailer Letsbuyit.com hopes to hold its stock market
debut on 21 July after twice postponing its share flotation.

The company earlier this week said it would put off its offering
- planned for last Tuesday - after deciding to slash the price of
its shares following poor demand from investors.

It had earlier postponed its flotation in May.

But it will now go ahead with the offering on Frankfurt's
technology-dominated Neuer Markt, despite analysts' misgivings.

Even if the offering does go ahead on 21 July, analysts said the
company would have a big whole in its financing.

Letsbuyit lowered its share issue price range to between 3 and 4
euros, down from its initial price range of 6 to 7 euros.

That means the company will raise a maximum of 356m, sharply
lower than the planned 623m euros.

Financing problems

"If the IPO goes through, the company will be listed with a gap
in its financing plan," said Peter Barkow, an analyst at HSBC
Trinkaus & Burkhardt in Duesseldorf.

Letsbuyit.com tries to bundle consumer demand on its web site to
bargain for lower prices from suppliers. It operates in 14
countries and 12 languages in Western Europe.

The company needs to fund its operations from the money raised in
the share offering because of its rapid cash burn.

It currently has reserves of 15m euros, which are sufficient to
cover it for the next two to three months.

"They are now trying to force an IPO because they absolutely need
the proceeds from the flotation," one analyst said.

Other analysts said the company was basically trying to list its
shares at the wrong time.

Online retailers have been particularly hard hit by the stock
market slump in technology stocks after the high-profile collapse
of sportswear and fashion retailer boo.com in May.

A number of firms have since been forced to postpone their stock
market flotations.

Hyder, the Welsh multi-utility company, said full-year pre-tax
profits fell to ?158.3m ($240m), from ?206m in the previous year.
The company said it would not pay a final dividend in view of the
present offers for the company. The group reported Nomura, the
Japanese investment bank, had offered to buy Hyder for ?460m
while Western Power Distribution, the US-owned UK utility, had
bid ?402m for the group. If neither offer was completed, Hyder
would pay a special interim dividend but if neither had existed,
it would have paid a dividend of 13.3p, compared with 33.6p a
year ago.


HYDER: Welsh Utility Announces No Final Dividend

The Welsh multi-utility Hyder has reported a sharp drop in
profits and announced that it will not pay a final dividend.
Pre-tax profits at Hyder dropped to ?76.7m after exceptional
costs, down from ?206m from a year earlier.

This takes into account the massive costs of restructuring the
company. Without these, the company would have made a ?158m
profit.

The heavily indebted company is currently the object of a take-
over battle. Japanese investment bank Nomura is bidding ?402m,
while US-owned English utility Western Power Distribution is
offering ?460m.

Hyder provides water, waste water treatment and electricity to
millions of customers in Wales, and is the region's largest
employer.

'A challenging year'

Hyder says it would have paid a 13.3p dividend, but would not do
so "in view of the present offers for the company". In 1999 Hyder
had paid a 33.6p dividend.

The utility promised shareholders an 'interim dividend' if none
of the take-over bids succeeds.

Hyder's chief executive, Graham Hawker, called it "a challenging
year for Hyder", but insisted that its businesses had "continued
to perform well".

The company has more than ?1.5bn of debt, and has been hit by
rulings from industry regulators that cut deep into profits.
The average water bill has dropped by ?30, while electricity
bills are down by about ?13.

This is good news for consumers, but has created a substantial
hole in Hyder's balance sheet - and pushed down the company's
share price.

Two-and-a-half years ago, Hyder shares traded at just under 1,050
pence. They are now down to about 315p, after hitting a low of
182p in March.

UK supermarket group Somerfield says its profits fell sharply
from ?218m to ?71m in the year to 29 April, and that things will
get worse before they get better.

Somerfield, which also owns Kwik Save, said more recent sales
have been down about 10%.

The company took over Kwik Save two years ago with plans to sell
many of the stores. Recently, it changed its mind and decided to
try to keep most of them running.

But sales have been falling heavily at both chains.

Dividend suspended

"The group's financial performance will worsen in the first half
of the current year before the benefits of our actions translate
into improved results," said executive chairman John von
Spreckelsen.

Full-year like-for-like sales fell 1.8% at Somerfield and 14.7%
at Kwik Save.

Analysts had been expecting a pre-tax profit of about ?80m.

Somerfield said it would be paying no final dividend to
shareholders in light of the poor figures. It had paid an interim
dividend of 1.5 pence a share.
